Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first female vice president and is the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
